Choosing the right software can make or break your LED display.

NovaStar is one of the most popular screen management solutions providers in the market, offering software and hardware products that ensure seamless operation of your display. The company’s most successful solutions include the Nova LCT, NovaStar Smart LCT, and the Viplex Express software.

Background of NovaStar

NovaStar first came into the LED screen management scene in 2008 with Beijing’s hosting of the Olympics. Its synchronous control system was used on the 3,400 square meter Morgan Plaza main screen. This marked the start of the company’s dominance in providing screen management solutions. Its control and calibration systems and cloud-based management services were used in worldwide sporting events including the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the Russia World Cup in 2018.

Since then, NovaStar has grown to 37 locations, offering its range of LED screen management hardware and software to customers worldwide.

In recent years, the company has experienced rapid development. Its market share accounts for approximately 60% to 70% of the global LED display control system products as of 2023. It has been listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on February 28, 2024, under the stock code 301589.

Novastar’s Products

Nova Technology offers a comprehensive range of products that include both hardware and software components. These components work in tandem to manage, coordinate, and ensure the seamless operation of LED displays.

Novastar’s Hardware Equipment

Novastar’s hardware equipment is essential for the normal operation of LED displays. Typically, the receiving card is installed externally into the LED display, while the sending device, video processor, and synchronous and asynchronous transmission boxes are located in the control room.

Sending Devices

Examples include MSD300, MCTRL300, MSD600, MCTRL600, MCTR4K, and MCTRL1600.

Receiving Card Devices:

  • CA Series: For instance, CA50E.

Nova LCT is NovaStar’s LED configuration software designed for the Windows operating system. It’s used for managing and optimizing LED control systems, especially those that use multimedia players.

Installation and Use

  • Installation:
    • Prepare your Windows PC and disable its antivirus.
    • Download the installation package from the NovaStar website.
    • Unzip the installer file and follow the wizard instructions.
  • Connecting and Configuring:
    • Open NovaLCT and log in to the multimedia player.
    • The system will search for and display available multimedia players in the network.
    • Configure settings, monitor hardware, adjust brightness, and manage other key functions through the software interface.

What is NovaStar Smart LCT

Not to be confused with the NovaStar LCT, the NovaStar Smart LCT is the former’s older sibling. It was designed to simplify LED configuration and management for both iOS and Windows PCs, but its simplicity proved to be lacking for most of NovaStar’s clientele. The company has since discontinued Smart LCT.

Screen Configuration:

  • Building Block Configuration: Allows configuring screens bit by bit like building blocks.
  • Image Rotation: Allows images to be rotated multiples of 90° (Amor series) and 360° (MCTRL R5).

Getting Started with NovaStar NovaLCT

Setting up the NovaLCT is a pretty straightforward process, in this part, we’ll talk about how to begin using the software and arrange and LED wall.

Steps for NovaLCT Setup

  1. Installation: Download and install NovaLCT from the official NovaStar website.
  2. Connection: Connect your LED display controller, such as the NovaStar H2, to your computer.
  3. Configuration: Launch NovaLCT and configure the basic settings of your LED display, including resolution, brightness, and color calibration.
  4. Advanced Settings: Explore advanced options to fine-tune your display settings for optimal performance.

Overview of the NovaLCT Manual

The NovaLCT manual is a comprehensive guide for configuring, controlling, managing, monitoring, and maintaining LED display software screens. You can master the operation and control of LED display screens through learning and practice.

It includes two distinct manuals: the NovaLCT Synchronous Control System User Manual and the NovaLCT Multimedia Control System User Manual (also known as the Asynchronous Control System User Manual). The former is used when the LED display screen synchronously displays content with the video source, while the latter stores the video source content first and plays it asynchronously.

Setting the Graphics Card

Regarding graphics card settings, we typically choose between copy mode and extension mode.

In copy mode, the LED display screen mirrors the content shown on your computer desktop, while in extension mode, it extends the desktop background. If the LED display screen remains completely black, it may be because the copy mode was not selected.

Setting the Sending Card

After opening the sender card program, you need to adjust the following settings:

  • Select source: DVI, DP, HDMI.
  • Set Resolution:
    If using only the sender card, match the resolution with your computer desktop.
    If using a video processor, choose a resolution higher than the actual resolution of the LED display screen.
    Custom resolutions can also be selected if necessary.
  • Refresh rate: We chose 60Hz

Configuring the Receiving Card

There are two ways to set up the receiving card:

  1. Your LED display supplier provides you with the rcfgx file, which you simply need to import.
  2. You can also configure it through smart settings.

LED Screen Connection

The connection of the LED display is configured and debugged in the “screen connection” section of the NovaLCT software. This is done according to the arrangement of the actual receiving cards and the order of the network cable routing, ensuring that the LED display shows the correct content in sequence.

Useful Functions

  • Mapping:  The mapping function intuitively displays the connection sequence of the receiving cards on the LED display, making debugging easier and faster.
  • Communication Status:  By observing the flashing status of the receiving card indicator lights, you can quickly identify issues with the LED display, such as problems with the video source, no signal, or no power.

How to Arrange an LED Wall with the NovaLCT

Step 1: Prepare the RCFGX File

Step 1: Each LED display receiving card has a corresponding RCFGX file. If your single cabinet displays normally, you can directly read and save it. Alternatively, you can ask the LED display manufacturer to provide the file, or you can obtain it yourself through intelligent settings.

Step 2: Log in to the NovaLCT software.

Launch the NovaStar LCT software and navigate to the login screen. Select ‘User’, then ‘Advanced Synchronous System User’ Open NovaLCT software. Enter the password—either “admin” or “888”—and click ‘Login’ to access the software.

Step 3: Configure the Receiving Card Parameters

Click on ‘Screen Configuration’, then ‘Press Next’. Choose ‘Receiving Card’ and select ‘Load from File’. Locate and select the rcfgx file you prepared earlier. Click ‘Send to Receive’ to transmit the configuration to all receiving cards, then save the changes.

Step 4: Configure the Screen Connection

Select ‘Screen Connection’. Following the actual sequence of network cable routing on the LED display (from the front), set the length of the receiving card and the pixel bandwidth. Connect all receiving cards in sequence using the software, then send the configuration to the LED display and save.
